Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) Product Information Sheet:
The following applies to all standard concrete masonry units regardless of size,
weight class and texture.
Manufacturer: Central Arizona Block Co: Inc. 6030 S. Mann Ave, Tucson AZ. 85756
Quality Control Assurance: all product shall meet the requirements of ASTM C90 for concrete masonry units. Products are submitted to an accredited certified testing lab on a regular basis to insure compliance to ASTM C90.
Leed / recycling: Many of our products utilize pre and post-consumer “waste” in their manufacture, keeping this material
out of our landfills and saving natural resources. Custom ratios are available on a job per job basis.
Product Weight Classes: Products are available in 3 weight classes, most common is Normal (HW) and Mid Weight (MW). A light weight is also available (LW).
Product Sizes: Nominal (includes standard mortar joint of 3/8”) anything between 2” to 12” in width, 2” to 8” in height,
length up to 24”.
Product Textures: Smooth, Spilt-face, Raked Face (Founders Finish), Shot Blast, Ground and Polished are available.
Product Colors: Almost infinite array of pigment combinations is available. In addition, on block with exposed aggregate (non-smooth), additional color accents are possible through use of colored aggregates such as red and black cinder, marble and white cement.
Fire Resistance: Masonry Block has excellent fire resistance and most fire ratings use an equivalent thickness method
per NCMA “National Concrete Masonry Association” -TEK 7. By varying the width, voids and block fill a desired fire rating is attained.
Water Resistance: Masonry is a somewhat porous product. An internal water repellent “IWR” is available at additional
cost. Whenever a water repellent CMU is required by design, the mortar should also contain an IWR. For best results,
for added protection, the whole masonry section should be sealed again after construction. This helps seal the mortar
joints, which is the most common cause of weep through a masonry wall. “Raked mortar joints” are very likely to allow
water inside a wall on standard shell thickness block and should be for interior use only. If exterior use is desired
consult your design professional and our technical team to see if offset core units that have a thicker front shell, might
provide for sufficient mortar thickness. Do not lay block in rain or block that is wet, to avoid efflorescence.
Handling: Do not stack any pallet, with product less than 6” high, on another pallet, ground stack only. Ground must be
free of rocks an reasonably level. Do not stack any other block more than 2 pallets high, and it must be in a safe and
flat location. Cover block if rain is expected. Specialty block comes covered, only uncover what is to be used.
Warranty / Customer Satisfaction: Since the mason handles every block, any block deemed not merchantable for any
reason that exceeds 4% of total, that product should be set aside and CABCO shall be notified.
DO NOT INSTALL ANY PRODUCT DEEMED DEFECTIVE - once in the wall you have accepted it as satisfactory.
While every effort is made during manufacturing, and we use multiple inspection checks, to produce the best and
most consistent block possible, units not meeting standard project standards cosmetically (usually color variation)
do occur, either through manufacturing, curing, handling, aggregate color variation, color dye lots, transport or job site
conditions. Chipping of corners is not counted as a product defect due to: 1) the sorry condition of most of our
roads some chipping will occur and is beyond our control. 2) Job-site handling is beyond our control. On site chipping
can be minimized by lifting not dragging product off pallets.
When CABCO is advised of an issue, we will inspect such product in question:
A - if we agree upon inspection there is an issue, we will either replace such units (subject to it being on pallets) with
mutually deemed satisfactory replacements at CABCO's cost, including transportation (product only) or issue a
refund of the product in question, at CABCO's sole option.
B - If CABCO inspection deems product merchantable and Customer disagrees, CABCO will have a third party make the
determination if there is actually an issue with our product. If the third party agrees with the customer than the
product deemed unsuitable will be replaced or refunded per A above.
Again, once the product is placed in a wall, it is considered merchantable, accepted by customer and is the installers sole
responsibility.
Liability under this warranty is limited to the replacement or refund of product in question only, subject to it being on
pallets, at the manufactures sole option. No labor, lost time, project delays, consequential or incidental damages are
applicable for any reason.
